What are the pros and cons of applying to University of Phoenix vs. other online schools? What made you choose this school? What do you like? What don't you like?

I am also interested in the answers to this question. It seems like a cheaper, better, faster way to go. But what are the pros and cons?

I've heard several reviews for Phoenix - some are positive, some - not. I think we should ask someone who has experience with this uni

I agree, Phoenix University is I guess in top 10 unis. It's rather popular among perspective students, though it would be really interesting to see what real students think of it.

I withdrew from univeristy of Phoenix becuase of an illines and I was unhappy with there online math classes. I carried a 3.8 gpa until math. The classes consited of massive reading and trying to figure out the problems on your own. The instructors provided limited help. Every math class I took I flunked. Every other class I recieved A's and B's.

Now as I withdrew I was assured by my academic counselor that everything was fine and I that all of the proper paper work was completed. About six month later I enrolled with Kaplan when I sent out for my credits UOP said I owe them over $6000. The finical counselor gave me some story about not meeting requirements and that they tried to contact me which was a lie.

I went back and forth with the finical person and he just stop responding to my emails and know one in finical aid will help me. I ask to speak to the manger in charge and I never got a response. I have 63 credits they will not transfer and now I owe $6000.

Well, I need some help here becuase I want my credits. I took out loan and grant money to attend this college and I had to basically start my fourth year of college over at Kaplan with no credits.

Do you know how much money I will owe in loans just to get my BA!! This is not fair and something is out of order with this University.

@donlat3 Here is a post with some scholarships for online schools that may interest you from both schools and organization specifically geared towards funding education for the online learner. If you found any other scholarships on your search, please share!!

I think University of Phoenix does have school-specific scholarships you may qualify for check it on their site... they call them institutional scholarships:
Institutional scholarships are awarded by the University and are made available to prospective and current students as well as our alumni. We develop these scholarships by reaching out to our target communities to determine their individual needs. Once we’ve determined their needs, we partner with non-profits and other organizations in their area to provide scholarship opportunities that help alleviate financial obstacles to an education.

@kyra13 That is terrible!! Were you attending University of Phoenix online, and now are at Kaplan University online? Or, are you at a local campus? Are you liking Kaplan's instructors better?

I really appreciate you sharing your story, it is so important to continue to follow up with the financial aid offices at both schools, and if you can't get the answers you need - to keep researching, possibly contact someone higher up at the school to help you. If you have any specifically financial aid questions, you can ask at our sister site http://www.financialaidforum.com/discussions/
