Can somebody help me with this?

Postby esl-languages on Tue Nov 17, 2009 4:46 am

A friend I knew studied learn English in Australia for his language and culture project. He is having problems in learning English that is why it took him long before he came back with an average fluency in English. Is learning English language really difficult? I’m worried because I’m planning to learn English then do a volunteer work afterwards. I’m afraid if it took me awhile to learn English my schedule would be out of order. Can somebody help me with this? Thank you very much!

But what language are you speaking right now? When you learn easy a language if you belong to that culture... For example if you speak german you will learn easy english because this 2 languages are germanic, if you speak italian you will learn easy spanish because this 2 languages are latin. What i can suggest you is to watch more english movies with subtitle in english and in that way you will learn english.

In general, learning any language is certainly difficult. One thing you can look into to figure out the best way of going about it is what type of learner are you?

Do you tend to learn better from seeing things (like writing on a chalkboard, or watching a presentation)? or... maybe you're an audio learner, and absorb information best when you are hearing it in the form of a tape, or a teacher lecturing to a class. Perhaps both.

Once you figure this out, you should narrow down the format that works best for you, and choose a program that plays to your strengths. Online programs can be great for learning new languages because they tend to have a lot of sessions available at convenient times for you, and in different forms like video lectures, online discussions, conference calls and more.
