new free virtual classroom hosting service

Postby davidhoare on Fri Aug 28, 2009 1:55 pm

Hello!

I’m a communications technology teacher, who also runs a website aimed at helping other teachers setup and manage their own online virtual classroom: I’ve used it in my classes for years, and now I’m opening it up to a broader audience, for free, in the hopes that other teachers can find a friendly way into the world of online instruction.

Using Moodle as the LMS, ClassRunner.com helps teachers instantly setup a custom course, and provides tutorials and assistance to help them along the way. The courses come with forums, wikis, quizzes, chat, SCORM modules, assignments, and dozens of other activities. It is incredibly powerful, fully customizable, yet very friendly and easy to use.

When we started this initiative, one of our key goals was to give back to the education community as much as possible. So whether teachers choose our free hosting (ad supported), single teacher, or full department plans, 10% of any funds collected will go directly to support learning and literacy charities.

I hope you will all find it as useful as I do, and look forward to seeing you online!

Sincerely,
David Hoare
ClassRunner.com president
(and comtech teacher)

Hi David,

Thanks for useful information.. This simply shows the power of online communication as a viable tool for education. I also found this site where teachers can actually share and earn from their educational videos. Its called PL21.. its basically an interactive environment where teachers record videos upon request from viewers

I also study in Moodle. Honestly speaking the system is not perfect (non-friendly interface and some other drawbacks). Interested if there are any alternatives. If someone study in other systems please share your experience.
